About the Program
The Preservation Resource Center's Operation Comeback promotes the purchase and renovation of vacant historic properties. Started in 1987 as a focused effort to revitalize the Lower Garden District, OC expanded rapidly and now works with dozens of neighborhood associations and community development corporations citywide to revitalize New Orleans.
Education Program
Operation Comeback sponsors a variety of workshops to help prospective buyers learn how to identify a vacant property suitable for renovation, negotiate its acquisition, find appropriate financing, and achieve a successful renovation project. Workshops include:
- Six Ways to Get a House is an overview of the blighted program, sale and donation of adjudicated properties, the foreclosure process, the landbank, acquisitive prescription and more.
- Renovation 101 sessions on financing, planning a project, working with architects and contractors and more.
- Renovators' Happy Hours monthly events on-site at a renovation-in-progress of recently completed renovation, featuring comments by owners, architects and contractors.
- Live in a Landmark talks and tours, events on-site in various neighborhoods, hosted by the OC staff and our neighborhood partners, and including a walking tour showcasing points of interest and available properties in the neighborhood.
- First-Time Homebuyer Training is a certified program that affords attendees an understanding of loans, working with realtors, insurance and more.
