Join us for our 8th Annual Ladies in Red, benefitting the PRC's African American Heritage Program. This year's Ladies in Red will be held Friday, June 20th at the Howlin' Wolf, 907 South Peters Street. Our 8th annual Ladies in Red will honor noted local jazz musicians Peter "Chuck" Badie, Lawrence Cotton, Lionel Ferbos, Joseph "Smokey" Johnson, and Porgy Jones. The Patron Party will feature music from Bob French and Friends, Germaine Bazile, and Topsy Chapman. The Main Event will feature R&B Group BRW.
The PRC's African American Heritage Program (AAHP) focuses on identifying and preserving the homes and cultural legacy of New Orleans jazz musicians. It is important to save the houses and to recognize the musicians who lived there, at the same time generating awareness of the cultural significance of the older neighborhoods of the city. AAHP has identified over 338 houses where early jazz legends lived, and has been able to produce and place historic markers on 80 of them. Three endangered houses where jazz musicians lived have been saved by PRC and its partners in preservation.
